Polaroid SX-70 User Manual

I have recently bought a Polaroid SX-70 (Alpha 1), complete with its accessory set, and to my luck, it came with the original user’s guide. Since we here at the Shoot Film blog are all about sharing useful informarion, I thought I might as well scan the manual, and upload it for all to download. Enjoy!

  1. i have one but im having problems with the pick up arm! i cant fix it i tried tilting it, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I took it to a store in Lebanon and I was told I had to have it opened up and fixed. Dont know any places in Kuwait that can do that. if you know please email about this.
    thanks.

    • Hello Farah!
First, thanks a lot for stoping by. We appreciate your support to the blog.
I am not aware of any stores that would fix your camera. I’m having a bit of problems with mine as well.
Best thing to do in my opinion is to look for tutorials online and do it yourself. I did so myself and fixed a motor problem with my camera. It may seem scary to open the back of the camera and toy with the insides, but trust me, if you follow the instructions, you will eventually get it.
Hope this helps, and let us know if you fix your camera. 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for doing this – I have two (2) SX-70’s and a handful of accessories, but I have never had a manual. Since Impossible is making the SX-70 film, I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted with my old foldable friends.

  3. searching for an sx-70 manual, i just stumbled upon your blog and totally love it! will definitely stop by regularly from now on.
i hope it is okay if i link to this page from my blog.

    • Sure thing! And feel free to download the high-res pdf file. It’s always a pleasure to help out a fellow film photographer. 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. My son recently found my dad’s old Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera while visiting with my mom. She let him have it as a toy. I quickly took it away explaining that this is not a toy and we should learn how to use it. I was trying to research it when I came across this article. This may be a dumb question but does it use batteries? Where is a good place to get fil?. Is there a simple way to tell if the camera works. It appears to be in very good condition. Since I’m not sure if the camera works I don’t want to spend a lot of money to figure it out. Any advice?

    • The Impossible Project sells SX-70 film online and in a number of stores. I started using an SX-70 I purchased on eBay with Impossible’s Generation 2.0 (meaning second version) black and white film. It develops very quickly (image begins appearing in 20 seconds) and produces a nice quality photo. The color film takes much longer to develop (30 minutes or longer), taking away the Polaroid magic – seeing your picture right away. They say color Generation 2.0 film will be available in the fall, and will develop fast, like the B&W film.

  5. I just bought an sx-70 on eBay, this manual “should” help me not to waste quite so much film, thank you for posting 🙂

  6. Thank you so much for sharing the manual! I just received my SX-70 and can’t wait to start using it! Jennifer:)
